The Samsung Galaxy S23 and its siblings are sure to be expensive phones – especially in the UK where leaks suggest there could be a price hike. But if you pre-order, you can lower the price a bit.
That’s because Samsung has officially confirmed that you can get a free memory upgrade with your purchase. So if you pre-order a 256GB Samsung Galaxy S23, you’ll only pay the price of the 128GB model. Similarly, if you pre-order the 512GB Galaxy S23 Plus or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, you’ll pay for 256GB.
Interestingly, there is no mention of this scheme working for the 1TB version of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, even though it supposedly exists.
This deal was strangely – and possibly coincidentally – confirmed in fine print on the Samsung Galaxy A23 page on the site UK Samsung Business website (opens in a new tab) (by Arena phone (opens in a new tab)). The text is still visible at the time of typing.
There’s a bit to unpack here – first, while this was a business site, the wording specifically refers to orders from Samsung.com (not a business site), so you probably don’t need to be a business customer to get this incentive. However, there is no guarantee that it will be available in third-party stores or in other countries.
However, the United States runs its own program that allows you to reserve the Samsung Galaxy S23 (opens in a new tab) and get $50 off when it’s time to buy, so even if that storage expansion isn’t offered there, you can still save some money.
However, the text on the Samsung UK website also confirms a few other things, such as the fact that there is indeed a Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus and Ultra alongside the standard model, which comes as no surprise.
More interestingly, this incentive runs until February 16, suggesting the phones will ship on February 17 as previously rumored. As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be announced on February 1, so it’s not long to wait for their official look.
Analysis: how much money will this program save?
Pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series in the UK remains unclear, so we can’t say exactly how much money you can save with these storage upgrades, but for what it’s worth, increasing the storage size with the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus while in The Ultra was looking for £80 to go from 256GB to 512GB. So we might see similar differences this year, even if the prices are different.
If the same deal is offered in the US, the savings could be around $50 for the Galaxy S23 or S23 Plus and $100 for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. While in Australia, you can expect a $100 savings to upgrade your Samsung Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S23 Plus storage, and a $150 discount on the S23 Ultra.
All in all, it may not be a huge saving, but it does make some of Samsung’s best phones a bit more affordable.
